Conference Scholarships

The Public Media Business Association offers several scholarship programs to help public media professionals take advantage participate in the 2017 Annual Conference. PMBA annually offers the Sid Brown Scholarship which provides resources for airfare, transportation, and conference registration for one applicate. 
 
This year, PBS is also sponsorsing two full scholarships and one partial scholarship for PBS station employees to participate in the 2017 Annual Conference.
 
The application period for the Sid Brown Scholarship and PBS Scholarships is now closed. The recipients will be announced in March.

To Attend the 2017 PMBA Annual Conference

The Public Media Business Association community is vital to building a prosperous future for public media. As an active organization of over 1,000 station managers, finance leaders, human resources professionals, and industry partners our members lead the business operations of the public media industry. We advance the efficiency, effectiveness, and the economics of public media to empower, inform, and connect the community of PMBA professionals, ensuring the success and sustainability of public media for the national audience.

Since 1996 PMBA has offered the Sid Brown Scholarship, awarding the winner each year travel expenses (hotel and airfare not to exceed $1,000) to the Annual Conference as well as a complimentary registration.  The scholarship honors the late Sid Brown, NPR’s Vice President for Finance and Administration, who died in 1994.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be employed by a public radio or television station, and must attend the entire conference.
  • Recipient may be asked to participate in a post-conference phone call with the selection committee to discuss the recipient’s experience at the conference.
  • Recipient may be asked to write an article, share notes, or create a resource summarizing content learned at the conference.

Criteria considered:

  • Your public broadcasting experience
  • How attending the conference content relates to your job
  • The benefit(s) you anticipate by attending the conference
  • If your station would not otherwise be represented at the conference
  • Your station’s financial circumstances
  • PMBA membership is not required.                                                                       

Submission: 

  • Letters of submission must address the requirements and criteria and include a resume.
  • The deadline to receive submissions is Friday, February 10.
  • The winner will be notified no later than in early March.

to Attend the 2017 PMBA Annual Conference

PBS will be offering two full PBS Scholarships and one partial scholarship. The recipients of the full scholarships will receive travel expenses (hotel and airfare not to exceed $1,200) to the Annual Conference as well as a complimentary registration. One additional recipient will receive a complimentary conference registration.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be employed by a PBS Member station and must attend the entire conference.
  • Recipient may be asked to participate in a post-conference phone call with a PBS representative to discuss the recipient’s experience at the conference.

Criteria considered:

  • Your public broadcasting experience
  • How attending the conference content relates to your job
  • The benefit(s) you anticipate by attending the conference
  • If your station would not otherwise be represented at the conference
  • If you have ever had the opportunity to attend a PMBA conference
  • Your station’s financial circumstances
  • PMBA membership is not required.
